Consulting Services

Safety Engineering Litigation services OSHA Compliance Industrial Hygiene

The principal consultation services offered by Ensign Safety and Health are safety engineering and industrial hygiene.  Successive pages describe in greater detail various project descriptions that clients have found helpful.

Why should you use a consultant?

It’s expensive to have a full-time employee in charge of your company’s safety and health program. Even if your company has a small number of employees, outsourcing your safety and health services to a trusted expert is more cost effective.

Reasons to Outsource for Safety and Health Consultation Service

Some of the advantages to you over having a person on your staff as a safety professional are:

  1. A full-time person in charge is expensive.
  2. A part-time person in charge may not have enough time to handle both safety compliance and primary job duties.
  3. Covering all the safety and health compliance basics is difficult, even for an experienced full-time staff person.  It takes time for a safety staff person to accumulate a high level of experience.
  4. All charges made regarding OSHA and negligence (including fraudulent charges) must be resolved.  Outsourcing to an expert (who deals with such agencies on a regular basis could mean dropped charges.
  5. Allows your key management to remain focused on your business mission.
  6. Indemnification against negligence charges by using a recognized expert.
  7. The expertise needed may very well be beyond the capabilities of the full-time staff.

OSHA Compliance

Cal/OSHA has been found to have stringent standards and its enforcement practices have criminal implications.  An audit including an evaluation of safety program implementation and maintenance coupled with a comprehensive hazard identification inspection can help determine your readiness for the impact of Cal/OSHA action.   Ensign Safety and Health is particularly experienced in representing cited clients before the Cal/OSHA Appeals Board and in obtaining very helpful variances from the Cal/OSHA Standards Board.

Administrative Safety Programs

Ensign Safety and Health has had years of experience generating written occupational safety and health programs conforming with regulatory requirements.  These programs have met the test of Cal/OSHA enforcement.  Written programs are often provided to the client with employee-related material translated into Spanish.
Training can be provided to affected employees, supervisors, or to program administrators as "train-the-trainer" presentations.

Industrial Hygiene

Ensign Safety and Health is particularly experienced in noise monitoring.  Noise monitoring can be performed for either occupational or community noise exposures.  Airborne contaminants can be sampled in the workplace by personal sampling pumps.  Ensign Safety and Health is perhaps a unique source in the San Joaquin Valley that owns specialized sampling instruments for airborne mold and other biologicals relative to Indoor Air Quality.

Attorney Litigation Services

As a registered professional engineer, David Smith has provided forensic services, including consultation and expert witness services to attorneys representing clients in litigation.  Testimony has been qualified in Superior Court.
